SLB Fashion: The Right Way To Colour Block your Outfits

The color block trend is one of the hottest trends right now. Although this trend is fairly easy to pull together, there are a few tricks to help you master color blocking tastefully.
The key to this look is establishing two or three colors paired together. A purple top, green bottom, and an orange bag is one example. You can also throw in neutral accessories to really bring the look together. Your outfit should also be clean and chic—button ups or pretty blouses that can be tucked in to trousers will kick it up a notch!
What do you need to bring this look together? Bright basics in classic silhouettes! If you aren't up for wearing all bright colors, you can play with two colors from the same color palette, like turquoise blue and cobalt blue, or you can opt for a neutral colored bottom with a bright top and clutch, or vice versa.
To avoid looking like a walking color wheel, it is imperative to keep your color matching to a minimum of three and add neutral accessories.
To complete the look, try a nude polish with minimal makeup—it will make your outfit stand out. Here are a few tips to make sure you’re doing it right:

  •  The first thing you need to know about colour blocking is that, like all fashion trends, it needs to be tailored to your own personal style. Don’t follow the trend blindly. Do it your way, have fun, play around and colour block!!!
  •  Look out for the colours of the colour wheel. Colours opposite each other or right beside each other are good options for colour blocking. If you hesitate to wear too bright colours, try blending with a neutral colour.

  •  When choosing accessories, tone the look down with neutrals so your outfit doesn’t look too busy. You’re trying to look colourful but not like a circus act.
  •  Always make sure to wear natural makeup with color-blocked outfits.
  • Don’t add prints, florals, stripes, frills into the mix – stick to solid blocks of colour in simple shapes (shifts, tunics, pencil skirts etc)
  •  Pair up to three colours at most – anything more will make you look like a rainbow
  • Don’t wear  bright pieces on your trouble areas, for example, if you have a big belly, wear the brighter piece on your bottom half , that is, as skirts or trousers.
If you are new at colour blocking, limit your colour blocks to two colours first. Once you get the hang of it, you can mix more colours and try pairing opposite colours together.
